🔨 YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY RESULTS
In the world of sports, it’s easy to get caught up in wins, losses, and stats.
However, true athletic growth and character development come from understanding that you are not defined by your results.
This mindset is crucial for athletes, coaches, and parents alike. Instead of focusing on outcomes, our focus would be better spent on the process of improving, personal growth, and giving your best effort.
By separating self-worth from results, athletes can enjoy their sport more, learn from their experience, and develop resilience that extends beyond their sport.
This is where athletics becomes an excellent life teacher!
Legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once said, “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable.”
What a quote! That smacks me right upside the head.
This quote encapsulates the very essence of not being defined by results.
Wooden’s wisdom reminds us that true success lies in the effort and dedication we put into our pursuits, not in the external validation of wins or accolades.
Our athletes are not defined by their wins, losses, or stats. They’re defined in three ways:
1) as a loved child of God (by far the most important at the end of the day)
2) by the effort they display in their pursuits
3) by the response they have to setbacks
By embracing this philosophy, athletes can find fulfillment in their personal growth and effort, coaches can foster a more positive and productive training environment, and parents can support their children’s journey with a healthier perspective.
Ultimately, this approach not only leads to better performance but also prepares individuals for success in all areas of life.
Happy Friday!

I pray that your day is full of reminders of God’s love and faithfulness. May you faithfully build your life on Christ.
“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
To God be the glory,
