🔨 URGENT PATIENCE
Success often hinges on balancing short-term urgency with long-term patience - something I like to call “urgent patience.”
This approach is vital for anyone that desires to chase after excellence.
Daily urgency drives progress. Athletes should give their best effort to make incremental improvements and seize opportunities.
However, this drive must be combined with patience in the bigger picture. Athlete development is rarely linear. It looks something a little more like this:
Parents and coaches need to understand that a young player’s full potential may not be immediately evident, and progress can be inconsistent.
AND THAT’S OKAY.
We shouldn’t be focusing on the outcome anyways. Our focus should be on habits and discipline needed to get to the outcome.
The magic happens when urgency and patience combine.
This balance allows for celebrating small wins while keeping sight of long-term goals.
Athletes should give their best daily effort while being patient with overall progress.
Coaches can encourage their athletes and design practices balancing immediate improvement with long-term development.
Parents should support daily commitment, avoid comparisons, and celebrate effort over just achievements.
This approach nurtures growth, resilience, and success in sports and life.
And that’s just why athletics is one of the best teaching tools!

I pray that your day is full of reminders of God’s love and faithfulness. May you faithfully build your life on Christ.
“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
