DOING THE RIGHT THING

High school athletes are constantly faced with decisions that can impact their career, reputation, and personal growth. It's important for our student-athletes to develop a strong moral compass and know how to make the right choices. The Bible offers valuable guidance on this topic, and one verse in particular, 2 Thessalonians 3:13, can be a helpful reminder:

“But as for those who are not obedient to our word but are disobedient, note who they are and have no fellowship with them, so that they may be ashamed.”

This verse encourages us to be discerning. Here’s how you can apply this principle to your life as a high school athlete:

1. Choose Your Friends Wisely:

  • Surround yourself with positive influences. Seek out friends who encourage you to be your best, both on and off the field.

  • Avoid negative peer pressure. Don't let others pressure you into doing things that you know are wrong.

2. Set Your Own Standards:

  • Know what you believe in. Develop a strong sense of personal values. What matters to you?

  • Stick to your principles. Don't compromise your beliefs for the sake of popularity or acceptance.

3. Be a Role Model:

  • Lead by example. Your actions can have a significant impact on others, especially younger athletes.

  • Show respect for others. Treat everyone with kindness and consideration.

4. Seek Guidance:

  • Talk to your coach or mentor. They can offer advice and support.

  • Consult with a trusted adult. Your parents, teachers, or religious leaders can provide guidance.

Remember, making the right choices is not always easy. It requires discipline, self-awareness, and a commitment to your values.

“But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

To God be the glory,

Coach T
