🔨 HOLY WEEK MADNESS

I'm sure many of you know that I'm a huge basketball guy. I told my wife the other day that March Madness is up there with Christmas and my birthday for favorite days of the year. She was in disbelief.

Over the past week, countless people, from die-hard fans to casual observers, have filled out their brackets. Productivity at work has taken a hit, as sports enthusiasts everywhere are glued to their screens, soaking in all the excitement.

For many, the passion surrounding March Madness almost takes on a religious fervor. Fans across the nation proudly don their team colors, displaying a mix of nervous energy and hope as they root for their favorite teams to advance. They watch games with bated breath, shouting in disbelief or joy at their screens, while kids mimic their heroes by playing basketball at home and adults grab snacks in anticipation. It's a whirlwind of activity, and I must admit, I can't get enough of it—I cherish every moment.

However, as I've been gearing up for this year's tournament, I've started to see parallels between our faith journeys, the Lenten season, and the excitement of March Madness. It got me thinking, what if we approached our faith and Lent with a similar fervor? What if we used the "madness" of college basketball to gain valuable insights into our humanity as creations in the image of God?

The allure of March Madness reflects several aspects of our spiritual lives and Lenten journey that can inspire and rejuvenate us for what lies ahead.

Firstly, disappointment and setbacks are ever-present. Teams meticulously prepare for success in the tournament, yet even the best-laid plans can be dashed by unexpected upsets. Similarly, in life, despite our efforts to live responsibly and faithfully, we still encounter heartache and challenges. However, our connection to God and community can provide comfort and healing during these difficult times.

Secondly, hope is a driving force. The tournament is full of comebacks and underdog victories, showcasing the power of hope and perseverance. As Christians, our hope rests not in fleeting achievements but in the promises of God, particularly in the victory of Jesus over sin and death.

Lastly, victory often emerges from unexpected sources. Whether it's an unknown player shining on the court or stories of resilience and triumph off the court, these narratives mirror the ultimate story of Jesus overcoming death and securing victory for humanity.

As we enter Holy Week and approach Easter, I invite you to join me in embracing this sacred journey. Just as the Final Four signals the culmination of the tournament, Holy Week leads us to Easter Sunday—a celebration of Jesus' victorious journey and the fulfillment of God's promises.

Let's allow God to transform us during this time so that we may experience the abundant life promised to us. Just as the championship game crowns a tournament champion, Easter heralds the ultimate victory of Jesus and the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
