“WHERE ARE YOUR EYES?”

“We ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear the our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering…the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.”

2 Corinthians 4:7-10

Adversity brings the character of people down to the level of their circumstance or up to the level of whatever challenge they face.

As Christians, we know the truth of suffering is real. In many ways it is a formidable test and a teacher. As a coach, I’ve come to learn that how one handles adversity can give you a distinct advantage. Tough times teach teams!

We want our athletes to be confronted with difficulty, problems, and failures. We want difficult opportunities to arise. It’s what introduces them to the harsh reality that this life is difficult.

This is why I love sports so much. It provides an excellent avenue for our athletes to learn the methods to overcoming being “perplexed, pressed, and hunted down” like our verse reads.

The way to overcome this is by lighting a candle in the darkness. And this is easier said than done, especially in circumstances where there is a massive gap between thriving and surviving.

The answer is simple: Keep your eyes on the right thing.

For athletes, it’s staying focused on what you’re building. Whatever it is that you’re working towards, your adversity is not greater than it. It’s about continuing to work hard, to be persistent, and to control what you can control. In the face of adversity, what your eyes are on determines if they fall down to their circumstance or up to their potential.

As Christians, we understand the importance of fixing our eyes on Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith. We know that it is in Christ alone that we receive hope in the midst of our sufferings in this world. He is who we fix our eyes on!

We find our anchor in Christ. Fixing our eyes on Him, even in the midst of suffering, gives us the hope and strength to persevere.

Just as athletes persist in their pursuit of excellence, we continue to seek Christ's guidance and embrace the hope He offers in the face of life's adversities.

Adversity molds our character and teaches us invaluable lessons, both in the world of sports and in our spiritual journey as Christians. By focusing on what we are building and fixing our eyes on Christ, we can navigate the trials of life with resilience and unwavering faith.

⏪️ WEEKLY RECAP

FOOTBALL

The question on everyone’s mind was “Could the Cardinals bounce back after a close game vs. St Marys last Friday?” Well the Cardinals definitely showed that they could, with the most points scored yet this season.

The Concordia Football team had a big comeback win this week defeating Buckholts 60-14. The game ended in the third quarter and the Cardinals looked great the whole game. The 60 points came from 7 touchdowns and 12 points we got from 6 extra points that were made.

The Cardinals have been working very hard this year and it shows by the impressive performances they put on every Friday night. This is the 3rd consecutive game the Cardinals have scored over 40 points in a game and it looks like they have no intention to stop the pattern.

The Cards head back on the road to play McDade. We wish both teams all the best in the next week!

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball team has been on fire having defeated Bracken Christian on Tuesday and Summit Christian on Thursday both by a score of 3-0. The Lady Cards are 3-0 now in district. They have every intention to keep this up, as they will play Austin Waldorf (3-0) on Tuesday, and then bring Sacred Heart (3-0) to the Cardinals court on Thursday.

Keep it up volleyball and let’s cheer them onto 2 victories this week!

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
